Eaton Fire and EMS Home Page
Welcome to the new website of the City of Eaton Fire & EMS Division. This site was created to better serve the citizens of Eaton and to provide the community with important information from the fire and EMS divison.
Severe Weather Season Is Approaching
Emergency preparedness is not the sole concern of
Californians for earthquakes, those who live in "Tornado Alley";or Gulf Coast
residents because of hurricanes. Most communities may be impacted by several
types of hazards during a lifetime. Americans also travel more than ever before;
to areas impacted by hazards they may not be at risk of near their homes.
Knowing what to do before, during and after an emergency is a critical part of
being prepared and may make all the difference when seconds count.

More Information
The CDC reports that Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is a leading cause of unintentional poisoning deaths in the United States. CO is an odorless, colorless gas that usually remains undetectable until exposure results in injury or death. CO poisoning is preventable; nonetheless, unintentional, non--fire-related CO poisoning is responsible for approximately 15,000 emergency department visits and nearly 500 deaths annually in the United States. It is time to check your home heating appliances. Fuel fired devices can produce large amounts of carbon monoxide when not working properly. Have appliance checked for proper operation and install a carbon monoxide detector.
Check Your Smoke Detectors
As you prepare for winter, it is a good time to check your smoke alarms and change their batteries. Also, review your escape plan with the family. Don't have a plan? Don't put it off, go to our prevention page for information on home fire escape planning.
Home HeatingMore than one-third of Americans use fireplaces, wood stoves and other fuel-fired appliances as primary heat sources in their homes. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of the fire risks when heating with wood and solid fuels. Heating fires account for 36% of residential home fires in rural areas every year. Often these fires are due to creosote buildup in chimneys and stovepipes. All home heating systems require regular maintenance to function safely and efficiently.
